For the first time official statistics have confirmed that mobile phone browsing have overtaken laptop. Also, research shows that an average person in Britain spends around 2 hours a day on their phones.

Managing Director of Regency Creative, Josh Gutteridge, talks about responsive web design on Channel 5. “We now design websites primarily for mobile. Years ago we’d have created a website for desktop and mobile but now we create one single website for both devices.”

Responsive web design

Having a responsive website design means it responds well and displays nicely no matter what type of device it’s on – whether that be a computer, tablet or phone. The website should display well on each device and allow a person to easily find the information they need or make the purchase they need. The layout of the website is controlled by cascading style sheets (CSS).

When asked about internet use one person said, “I only use my mobile phone to browse the internet now. I can do everything I need on my mobile and I think some websites still need to catch-up by producing a mobile friendly website.”

The way we design websites has changed a lot over the years. Today we find that around 30-40% of all website visits are made on a mobile whilst people are on the move. This means extra thought has to go into the design process to make sure the website is responsive to maintain user experience at a high level.

With a large portion of people going through social media to an organisations website it is critical that a responsive design is implemented to allow those with a different screen size be capable of reaching their end goal. Companies who are to slow to develop this will see a dip in conversion rate through devices other than desktop.

What about your company website? How does it look on a mobile phone? If your website isn’t responsive for computers, tablets and phones why not contact us today to discuss your web design options.
